Adventures and Luxury in Jamaica
Having studied underwater archeology and having lived in the Caribbean, adventure is my middle name. I love experiencing the real culture of an island and Jamaica is teeming with adventure, culture and luxury. The Jamaican people are extremely welcoming, friendly and hospitable. The climate is hot and tropical and the terrain is mountainous, making the perfect atmosphere for adventure. Visit Ocho Rios and climb Dunn’s River Falls. The scenery is breathtaking and the climb, while vigorous, is not overly taxing. During this trip I swam with the dolphins in Dolphin Cove – a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
There are so many opportunities for fun and adventure, it’s hard to decide what to do. To really enjoy Jamaica fast-tracking the airport with Club Mobay is a definite. Schedule a tour through Amstar and request the best tour guide ever Mohyne Codlyn (aka Momo). Or hire a driver for the day. Our Amstar driver, Shawn, was so informative and friendly. I also highly recommend visiting Appleton Rum Estates, Blue Mountain Coffee Plantation and the Bob Marley Museum. Jamaican culture at its finest.
All that adventure will surely make you hungry. You’re in luck, as Jamaica is home to amazing culinary delights. Jerk chicken, stamp and go, rum punch, ackee with salt cod, beef patties and Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee are just a few reasons why you should sample this country’s tasty cuisine.
When it’s time to relax, Jamaica is home to luxurious, pampering resorts. On this trip we stayed in two different hotels with two distinct feels. Couples Tower Isle, an adult-only, all-inclusive resort, is a great choice for the budget conscious couple. It is perfect for a younger, active couple as everything from SCUBA, boat tours, paddle boarding and other excursions is included in the price. The rooms are nicely appointed and comfortable.
For a more upscale, luxurious stay, the second resort we tried was Secrets St. James. The sister resort to Secrets Wild Orchid, St. James is a beautiful, quiet resort that includes Secrets’ trademark Unlimited Luxury®, their all-inclusive experience that provides limitless access to all dining options, 24-hour room and concierge service, beach and pool wait service, unlimited top shelf spirits and more. I would highly recommend this resort experience.
Wherever you stay, I encourage you not to close yourself off in the resort. Join a tour and explore the island. There is so much to see and do and the Jamaican people love to show you their home.
