Tropical Weddings: 4 Quick Tips to Beat the Heat for Your Destination Wedding

Does the wedding of your dreams take place on the edge of a tropical beach, in front of dazzling blue water with the sun sparkling overhead making the sand twinkle like little diamonds at your feet? While tropical weddings are amazing, there are a few tips to keep in mind while planning your dazzling island wedding:

  • Sunscreen – Be sure to bring a high SPF sunscreen with you everywhere you go on the island to prevent sunburns and discomfort before, during, and after your wedding. This will help you avoid wedding pictures with a sun burnt wedding party. Most islands are closer to the equator than your body is naturally accustomed to, leading to faster and more intense burns if precautions are not taken ahead of time.
  • Plan your wedding time smartly   – The hottest time of day is usually between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. In addition, this is when the sun’s rays are the strongest, increasing the chance for sunburns. Try planning a morning or evening wedding so that you and your guests can avoid the heat  and be more comfortable during your big day.
  • Lightweight summer fabrics – In the warm rays of the sun you and your wedding party could get pretty hot and sweaty during the ceremony, so try to choose lightweight fabrics when picking out tuxedos and dresses. Linen and cotton are great options for the heat since they are breathable cloths. If you want something a bit dressier, then try a mix of fabrics such as rayon/spandex/polyester and select a loose flowing dress or skirt for the ladies. Tuxedos made from seersucker polyester will  ensure that the groom and his men all stay cooler and relaxed.
  • Wedding favors – In warmer climates, you can venture away from the tradition wedding favors and offer little mementos that will help cool      your guests and make them more comfortable. A small hand fan engraved with the bride’s and groom’s names and wedding date would be a wonderful gift and offer a way for people to cool themselves during the ceremony. You can add in water bottles with engraved  labels so that your guests stay hydrated and have something cool to drink.

These four easy tips will help you plan a more relaxed and fun wedding, and help prevent any heat or sun related problems such as sunburns or heat rash.
